101 Dalmations

Cruella De Vil / Cruella De Vil / If she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will.

Yeah, yeah, we know, we know. Or do we?

Seems we aunties must have made a snap judgement on 101 Dalmations when we were kids cos when we sat down to watch it at Lil D’s request it turned out to be much more than we had imagined.

Did you know that there were only 15 puppies? Had us surprised.  As did the pipe smoking Roger and the completely unambiguous intent to kill 101 puppies.

“Darling!” ” Darling!” “I’m hungry, mother!” Classic stuff.  Lil D is our very own Rolly.

Gotta say, we really enjoyed it.  Lil D told us we were welcome.

And now they’re even making an origin story for Cruella.  Can’t imagine what could’ve made her quite so cuckoo.  We very much look forward to being enlightened (^-^)

The retelling of stories from a different point of view – we’re always up for that.

Hoodwinked – Little Red Riding Hood told from the point of view of the Wolf is awesome.  Wicked, of course, takes the genre to a whole new level.  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies may have taken things a bit too far but still, fun to be had there too.

Maleficent was always going to be hit or miss with us.  We had no great love for Sleeping Beauty (til we started watching Ever After High – we now love Briar Rose) so expectations were low but it quickly grabbed our attention with a sympathetic and concise retelling of how sweet little fairy Maleficent came to be the villain we all know.  It’s a heartbreaking and cruel transition.  She takes her revenge but strength and love win out in this beautifully harmonious version of the tale.  Nothing is out of place with the original.  It’s a simple change of perspective.

We first watched Maleficent with Lil D some time last year but then with the presentation of both Maleficent and Aurora Christmas Tree decorations to both Lil D and her mummy it seemed a good time for a rewatch.

We all now have a real shared affinity for Maleficent and her tale, plus some fantastic shoes (^-^)

Song of the Sea

❤️ We’re in love ❤️

Song of the Sea has it all. Warmth, magic and style. Plus it’s Irish ☘

It has instantly become our frontrunner for an ethereal Christmas Eve movie.  What could be better on Christmas Eve than going to bed filled with wonder and magic?

The gorgeous animation had us squealing with joy.  We’re talking Studio Ghibli-level good. We’re so impressed.

We can’t wait now to watch The Secret of Kells and are dreaming of the day when all of Ireland’s folklore is told as beautifully as this.

For the love of dinosaurs….

Dino-sawEver since Lil’Graphic Designer displayed his love of all things dinosaur, A Night at the Museum has had a place in Nanny’s house. Say the words ‘Dum, Dum’ and for a while all the dotes were ready to watch it for the umpteenth time. Getting Lil’ Comedian to stop saying ‘Dum, Dum’ was as difficult as convincing the others that we really could watch a different movie.

Yet for the last few months A Night and the Museum (1 and 2) had rested peacefully in their DVD boxes, undisturbed by small hands.

Then Nanny discovered there was a third movie and what’s more, it was cheap!! Eek, we aunties thought, here we go again. Continue reading
